Design and Develop Awards request for proposals announced
From: Division of Information Technology
Proposals are due March 8, 2019, and will be accepted beginning February 11, 2019, for course development in summer I/II or fall 2019. The Design and Develop Awards provide funding to departments to support faculty developing individual courses and those within programs offered in various formats including asynchronous and synchronous online, hybrid (combining on-site and online), room-to-room connected classrooms, and flexible, multi-modal approaches. The awards promote high-quality, technology-enhanced teaching and learning experiences in new or existing governance-approved courses offered for the first time or revised for a new delivery mode. Successful proposals should include a focus on enrollment growth, and align with Provost’s Office initiatives such as Destination Areas.
Proposals can be submitted for individual course development projects or as full graduate program (degree or certification) development projects spanning several semesters. All proposals require departmental approval.
Submitted proposals require a completed online form (accepted beginning February 11, 2019), a completed narrative template (included in the Proposal Packet Worksheet), a signed Letter of Agreement, current course syllabus, and original course syllabus (if different from current).
Approved proposals receive $8,000 for a revised course and $10,000 for a new course, paid to the department. Funds can be distributed to faculty outside of the contract year (subject to existing limitations). Award notifications will be announced the week of April 1, 2019.
Faculty who receive funding are required to make a 12-week commitment to a faculty professional development cohort, beginning with an opening workshop on May 20, 2019, for the summer I/II 2019 cohort. The fall cohort opening workshop date will be announced on August 1, 2019. Participation in the cohort will result in faculty credentialing (providing 12 NLI credits) and course quality assurance review for online courses in compliance with Distance Learning Policy 6364.
Interested faculty members are invited to attend an online information session scheduled via Zoom on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, from noon to 1:00 p.m. Join the Zoom meeting at https://virginiatech.zoom.us with the personal meeting ID 540-231-5004. A link to the recorded session will be available from the website within 24 hours.
