TLOS launches self-paced online teaching certification

From: Division of Information Technology

Good teaching can happen in any course modality, but moving to an online environment requires intentional planning to achieve the same learning outcomes as in a face-to-face course. To help, instructional designers from Technology-enhanced Learning and Online Strategies (TLOS) worked with two faculty-led working groups to create an Online Teaching Certification workshop. This self-paced training site provides an introduction to the unique considerations involved in teaching an online course through a series of mini-workshops:

  • Syllabus Creation
  • Course Goals + Objectives
  • Lesson Planning
  • Principles of Assessment
  • Universal Design for Learning
  • Providing Meaningful Feedback
  • Building an Online Community
  • Reflective Practice

By completing these mini-workshops, faculty will be better prepared to overcome the challenges and leverage the opportunities presented by online courses. The full series is intended to take less than four hours to complete and awards credit in the TLOS Professional Development Network’s computer refresh program. Participants who complete all the mini-workshops in this course will receive a digital Certificate in Online Teaching.

The Instructional Design group within TLOS, a unit of the Division of Information Technology, supports faculty in redesigning courses to take advantage of the latest advancements in technology-enhanced pedagogies.
