Virginia Tech faced off against Tennessee on Saturday in the largest college football game in history.

A record 156,990 people attended the Battle at Bristol, which was played in the infield of the Bristol Motor Speedway.

The long anticipated event shattered college football’s single-game attendance record set in 2013 when 115,109 fans witnessed Michigan and Notre Dame at Michigan Stadium.

Despite an impressive start, Virginia Tech fell to the No. 17 Tennessee Volunteers 45-24.
