The Virginia Tech community gathered at the War Memorial Pylons on Nov. 10 for Veterans Day. In the morning, President Tim Sands, Maj. Gen. Randal Fullhart, commandant of cadets, and Professor of Aerospace Studies Col. Cameron Torrens, who oversees Virginia Tech’s Air Force ROTC Detachment 875, placed a memorial wreath at the cenotaph in the center of War Memorial Court. Before that ceremony, a service was held in War Memorial Chapel.
In the afternoon, the corps held a special ceremony to add the name of the late Luther James Doss Jr. of the Class of 1970 to the Honor Pylon. Doss was killed in action on April 30, 1970, in the Binh Dinh Province of South Vietnam while trying to rescue eight soldiers who were surrounded by attacking forces. Read the story on Doss.
