Sumpter, previously assistant director of United Way of Montgomery, Radford and Floyd, will lead engagement of the college’s 15,000 alumni and 2,200 students, providing events, networking, and relationship-building outreach and programming.
A portion of the gift was matched by three alumni from Virginia Tech who wanted to begin nurturing a spirit of philanthropy among the graduating medical students back to the university and Virginia Tech Carilion. The alumni contributions were contingent upon 100 percent participation by class members in donating.
Cutler completed a master of arts in international conflict and security, with a specialization in human rights law, at the University of Kent during the 2015-16 academic year and will receive a masters in public and international affairs from Virginia Tech at the National Capital Region Commencement on May 14.
