As data breaches and cyberattacks continue to grow, businesses, government agencies, and other employers are seeking employees with the right skills to help them. The cybersecurity option would help meet the tremendous need for talent in this field.
Each semester, Virginia Tech hosts 10 to 15 career fairs, offering job and internship opportunities in engineering, hospitality, communications, science, business, and more. But how effective are these fairs in helping students find jobs and internships?
Seven students enrolled in the new Farm Market Field Study course take shifts managing the Homefield Farm Stand at Turner Place at Lavery Hall. The stand sells nearly 30 different types of vegetables grown at Homefield Farm.
With a focus on health sciences and technology, the HS&T Hokie Pitch will involve 30 students who have worked with real-world mentors, selected intellectual property, and created an entrepreneurial plan to develop and commercialize biomedical discoveries.
“Rendyr epitomizes the potential of Virginia Tech students to change the world through launching a new venture while pursuing their degree,” said Sean Collins, director of the Apex Center for Entrepreneurs. “Seeking to democratize access to prototyping tools, Rendyr has the potential to be a game changer in multiple industries.”
The alumni recipients were Tim Chase, Rishav Khanal, Matthew Ogburn, and Mallory Tuttle. The awards were initiated by the Pamplin Society, a volunteer group that seeks to promote, support, and improve the college and to enhance alumni engagement by recognizing alumni contributions.
During its quarterly meeting held in Blacksburg, the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors received numerous reports and presentations on key university priorities, such as the Innovation Campus, Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, and Apex Center for Entrepreneurs.
A startup itself in 2014, Apex is now on track to engage more than 3,000 students across all colleges on campus. The center takes an interdisciplinary approach, partnering with course options across campus to empower students with knowledge and skills to build and launch companies.
