The Division of Human Resources announced today that Virginia Tech’s new recruiting and onboarding system launched July 22.

The new system, developed in partnership with an extensive group of campus stakeholders and the vendor, PageUp People, provides an enhanced experience with a number of benefits for both applicants and internal users.

For applicants, a new jobs website invites them to claim their role at Virginia Tech and provides an overview of the many benefits of working for the university. From the jobs website, employees can visit the new careers listing page, where they can filter by position type, location, and more. If there are no positions for which they want to apply, they can complete an expression of interest form to receive notifications when future jobs that they are interested in are posted.

Applicants will be able to apply for jobs more easily and with the new site’s adaptive design, can apply from any device. As positions go through the recruitment process, applicants will:

  • Receive update communications.
  • Accept interview invitations in the system.
  • Receive and acknowledge offer letters in the system.
  • Submit their new hire information electronically.
  • Complete a number of new hire activities, including creating their PID, starting the form I-9, enrolling for direct deposit, and more using the new onboarding portal.

For internal users, the new system provides an end-to-end solution for position hiring. All actions, starting with creating a position through posting the role, recruiting and conducting searches, making an offer, and onboarding, are now contained within the system, whereas many of these actions were previously manual and happened outside the system.

The new system is integrated with the university’s HR information system of record, Banner, resulting in two-way communication of job information, position numbers, and university ID numbers for new employees. In addition, internal approvals for position descriptions, job postings, and offers take place within the system.

“We are pleased to launch this new system, which provides significantly more automation to streamline the recruiting and hiring process at Virginia Tech,” said Bryan Garey, vice president for human resources. “Implementation of PageUp is one of HR’s primary goals for 2019. We could not have reached this milestone without the contributions, input, and support of our university stakeholders. This system, which went from concept to completion in just six months, is a tremendous example of what is possible through teamwork and collaboration.”

Through Oct. 1, Human Resources will continue to support the new PageUp system as well as the PeopleAdmin system. During this time, applicants will be able to continue applying for positions posted in PeopleAdmin prior to July 22, 2019. All positions approved to hire on or after July 22, 2019, will be posted in PageUp. Read this article for more information about the system transition.

Training for internal PageUp users is underway now. Read this article for more information on who needs to attend the training. A Canvas site is available containing PageUp training materials.
